Elkhart County: We'll be Fine

Two events converged recently: the jobless rate for Elkhart County became the worst in the nation, spurring our new President to visit, and my company completed a patent study of Indiana, focused on the North Central region to which Elkhart belongs.

- Crazy! Farmers are making more money on less land with a higher number of farms. Up 37%? How is that even possible? Why such a big increase? Higher value crops? Local selling/buying? Agritourism? Road side stands? Something bigger has to be at play here...

- Elkhart County has reinvented itself many times, from the frontier days to band instruments to Alka Seltzer to RVs and mobile homes to our current manufacturing base that's diversified beyond RVs and mobile homes.
